Birthday Time

Tomorrow is my 58th birthday. Whoop Whoop. Here's what is taking up space in my brain.

I'm currently in Oklahoma for my birthday/Thanksgiving week with family. I feel guilty that Harley-Girl is in the kennel... the drive here was VERY soggy... it was a low-visibility rainy drive the whole time from Santa Rosa, NM to OKC. I'm so thankful I arrived safely and there were no major accidents or even road construction on the way.

I woke up today with a list of chores to get done:

  • Switch my cellular service from AT&T ($135.00 a month) to PureTalk ($30.00 a month).
  • Log into my NAU account
  • Make an appointment for early 2026 with my tax guy
  • Call ALE Solutions re housing for the time I need to be out of my house during the kitchen/tile remodel **Find an AirBnB *** talk to the insurance adjuster to make sure the entire stay is covered
  • Research OHANA (is that the right name?) Subscription Health Service
  • Research Trust vs LLC for ownership of 28th Street

I did the first 3 things - switching cell providers is not for the faint of heart! The connection was sketchy, but it is done. And a great thing: calls and texts to the UK are FREE!

I was finally able to log into the NAU student portal - not much there. I thought it would have a list of things I need to complete to complete my application (I still need to send them my USAO transcripts; my UA transcripts have been ordered).

I made my tax appointment for February.

I have to submit my birth certificate, our marriage certificate and himself's death certificate to verify my identity to see if himself has a UK Pension... Scottish & Newcastle Pension (scheme) sent him a letter, so I added this to my list of things to investigate.

I'm in the process of converting himself's AAA IRA account with Fidelity to me as the beneficiary and then transferring that money to my IRA account with the new Financial Advisor...

I'm switching over my investment(s) management to Orion and a new Financial Advisor - it's a lot of stuff to wade through and a lot of accounts/companies that seem to be involved. The accounts are still with Schwab, but it's a lot of kerfuffling to get all this money stuff done.

My Reverse Osmosis water line leaked and I discovered it at the end of October... my kitchen is currently gutted and all the continuous tile throughout the house needs to be removed because the underlying vinyl (crap) tested positive for Asbestos... silver lining for the absolute chaos and upheaval my house is in right now is an almost-new kitchen! New Tile, New Cabinets (upper and lower) and probably painting. I'm trying to coordinate the removal/demolition of the old tile with the immediate installation of the new tile... the new tile will take approximately 10 days. The removal only will take 2 days, plus sending a tile to the testing place to ensure proper protocols/safety etc has been followed.

I think I have what I need to transfer the title of the 28th street house to my name - but if I'm to continue renting it (which I plan to for the foreseeable future), do I want to put it in a trust or an LLC? I want to hire a property manager, but before I can do that I have to have the title in my name. In order to get the mortgage assigned to me, I have to have the title in my name and a "testamentry" document to send to the mortgage company with mom's death certificate.

This is an incomplete blog post - it's what my brain is like most of the time.

... I locked my car keys inside my car on Veteran's Day outside of a friend's house. We had a quartet gig and I knew it would all be okay (I have AAA)... but still, my brain isn't functioning on all cylinders all the time.

It seems like there's more... but that's enough for now..
